What is Utilization Management?
For years dentistry has fought hard to maintain its niche in healthcare. Dentists have reveled in a level of autonomy that other healthcare providers feel is lost to them. Quality and appropriateness were at the sole determination of the individual dentist. In this new era of data-driven healthcare and cost-conscious consumers, dentist may feel that their autonomy is being threatened. Evidence-based dentistry and the establishment of quality metrics are helping to put parameters around appropriateness and quality of care.
